Experience

IME has designed several highway construction projects encompassing many miles of highway for the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). In addition, we have also designed roads to lesser standards for many other governmental agencies and private entities. The services we have provided for these projects include field surveys to establish right-of-way lines; generating cross-sections from either field surveys or digital terrain models generated from aerial surveys; geotechnical explorations for the roadway, borrow sources, and aggregate sources; pavement section design; design of the horizontal and vertical alignment and superelevation; evaluation and design of climbing lanes; hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for culverts; design of cross-section elements and snow fence to control blowing snow; earthwork balance and preparation of earthwork mass diagrams; quantity estimates; and, preparation of the final plans including plan and profile sheets, quantities summary tables, details, cross-sections, and culvert profiles.

In Wyoming, IME has designed and platted over 100 developments. These developments have consisted of dividing a total of more than 3,300 acres into more than 2,300 lots or tracts, including more than 50 miles of city streets or county roads. These developments included residential subdivisions, office parks, industrial parks, and commercial developments. The services we provided for these developments include boundary surveys and topographic mapping; layout of lots and streets; geotechnical explorations; plat preparation and plat staking; design of streets, sidewalks, and curb and gutter; design of water and sewer systems; Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) permitting; site grading design, drainage analysis, and storm sewer design; coordination with utility companies; preparation of cost estimates; preparation of construction bid documents; construction staking, construction materials testing, construction observation, and construction contract administration. In addition, IME has been a subconsultant providing construction staking, geotechnical explorations, and construction materials testing on several other multi-million dollar projects, including industrial and mining developments, airports, school construction projects, and commercial facilities.

IME is a leader in the field of solid waste disposal. We have been designing and permitting landfills continuously since 1979, including re-permitting landfills to meet updated regulations. We have provided site assessments, environmental assessments, technical studies, site design, permitting, operational planning, closure design, and long-term monitoring for 33 landfills located in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. These landfills include Type I, II, and III municipal solid waste disposal facilities and asbestos disposal facilities. In some situations, it has become more economical to construct a transfer station instead of a landfill due to regulatory compliance issues. We have been involved in the design and construction of 11 transfer stations. Our President, Howard M. Johnson, P.E. & P.L.S., has been a member of the Wyoming Solid Waste Management Association since 1986. He has held numerous offices including the Chairman of the Legislation Committee, Chairman of the Rules and Regulations Review Committee, and President of the Association. He has been a strong advocate for our clients.

IME has provided engineering, surveying, and geotechnical services for dozens of projects in the mining industry. Types of projects include assisting in mine permitting for new mines and gravel pits, mine reclamation projects including projects administered through the State Abandoned Support Mine Lands Program, and reclamation conducted by private mining companies; services for the construction of mine plants or mill facilities; design of dams and reservoirs; hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design of drainage structures; mapping, claim staking, and control surveys; and evaluation of long-term reclamation slope stability and high walls.

IME has designed cross-county water transmission lines, water wells, water storage tanks, and wastewater collection lines. We have provided services for the design and construction of wastewater treatment facilities. We have also provided engineering services for irrigation projects including diversion structures, canals, irrigation pipelines, inverted siphons, water delivery structures, and water measurement devices.
